Termite & Carpenter Ant Control
Wood destroying organisms can damage the structural integrity of your home. Carpenter Ant, a common indigenous ant species on Long Island are attracted to high moisture content. Much of the time they can give us insight into an unhealthy moisture levels within the structure of homes. This elevated moisture level is more often than not the catalyst for which an infestation of this destructive ant can be blamed. Leaky sky lights, leaky roof, faulty plumbing, absence of a dehumidifier in the sub level. All potential trouble. These high moisture levels can also lead to mold which can be highly toxic and dangerous to your family. Carpenter Ants naturally nest in, and are particularly attracted to common tree species such as maple and oak, which are abundant in the Northeast. They do not eat wood. Instead they bore through it for nesting purposes. Every Spring a percentage of a colony will develop wings and “swarm” in an attempt to create satellite nests and expand into the world. What are the odds during this swarming season that a satellite nest will be established on your property? We will be here, to provide both traditional one time treatments as well as monthly maintenance programs to protect your home. East End Pest Management has the best pest solution for you.
Long Island, home to the Subterranean Termite. The main subterranean termite species in the eastern U.S. (including Long Island) is the eastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes flavipes. They are social insects, organized into castes: workers, soldiers, and reproductives (alates / swarmers, and sometimes secondary reproductives). Termites eat wood. 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week, 52 weeks a year. They can create massive damage that needs to be repaired within that year. Because they forage underground (or via enclosed tubes), infestations are often hidden until damage becomes noticeable. A colony can eventually reach very large sizes. Estimates for R. flavipes vary, but colonies may contain anywhere from tens of thousands to several million workers. A mature colony’s daily wood consumption is modest per termite, but cumulatively significant. For example, one average R. flavipes colony may consume about 5 grams of wood per day (rough estimate) — which adds up over time. Termite inspections are needed to detect and stop destructive infestations before they cause costly structural damage to a home. Inspections are crucial when buying or selling a property, as they are often required by lenders and protect the interests of both parties. Regular inspections are also a recommended part of home maintenance to preserve value, ensure safety, and provide peace of mind. East End Pest Management provides pre purchase, as well as regular inspections. We also provide a number of treatment options such as Termite Monitoring systems and traditional treatments.
